  1. My wife and I have 2 crawford seeds. They weigh 235 . We sail in places where we do not have extra help to lift top boat off. How could one design a trailer for just 2 people to accomplish this task? Any thoughts or ideas on this matter? Thanks, Dennis

  2. Hi Dennis,
I did sketch out a double-decker setup that would allow me to launch two boats by myself. Even bought the materials, but haven’t got around to making it. I played with several designs. The challenge is to come up with something that can stand up to long trips on bumpy roads. This ruled out a lot of options. When I realized the boats could ride stacked with a cradle in between, I settled on what amounted to a manual boat lift to hold the top boat up long enough to slide the bottom boat under. This makes the engineering much simpler, as you don’t have to build for long term stress. Once both boats are on the trailer, you lower the top boat to nest on top of the first for transport. The lifting mechanism is powered by a winch. If you google “manual boat lift” you’ll find photos that will give you some idea of what I had in mind.
