Paddling the Canal at Winter Harbor
We snuck in a few days at Winter Harbor this year. We had to forfeit last year, and missed it. Too much life going on. But this year, with the house nearly done we felt we could take a few days off and not lose the chance again. Glad we did.
The sailboats are still in storage, but we took the canoe, paddled it over and back. I took photos and video as usual, but just haven’t had time to look at any of it. Went back tonight, back at my editing station again finally, and got a nice feeling from this part. Enjoy.
May we all have more days like this in the coming year.
On Top of the World
While we’ve been sweltering here in Virginia, daughter Emily sends this, her view this evening.
She works for the Forest Service between Bend and Eugene, Oregon. On her days off, she now has a part time gig as relief staff for the Carpenter Mountain Fire Lookout Tower.

The full time ranger is up there 10 days on and 4 days off, April through October. It takes a crew of rangers to backpack enough water to last him 6 weeks.
I’m so jealous.
Drone Racing
Instead of watching the Super Bowl, went to a brewery and watched miniature drones racing. First person video flying. Pretty cool technology.

This is the small one. Running the big boys now. So far, only part of one directory lost . . .

Update five hours later: Out of all the drives, including the Mac itself, looks like I’ve only lost one file, a single photo taken ten years ago. Amazing.

A lovely piece of animation and story-telling recently shared on the WoodenBoat Forum Facebook page.
Just painting and drawing boats realistically is a challenge – perspective is so wonky with all the curves. To animate that in a way that feels right, with a sense of mass and inertia, is really hard.
The people who did this clearly understand and appreciate old style sailboats.
