Walk around the lake
The snow is all gone. A few patches hide in the hollows behind trees, and on the north side of hills. Surprising when you do find it, like stumbling on a small furtive animal.
Bulbs are popping open in the house and in the yard. We did a little cleanup of limbs pulled down by the storm, and headed off for a hike.
The whole walk around the lake was shimmering with the sound of peepers. I heard them once briefly on a warm day in February. Now they’re out in great numbers. That, for me, is the first sound of spring.
We flushed a small flock of ducks, wending their way back north. Shirt sleeve weather coming for the whole week ahead.
Two seasons in four days.
