We have always called them “Southern Magnolias”. The tree was already mature when we bought the house 30 years ago, so I can’t be certain. You see them around many old homes across the south, especially college campuses. I believe the botanical name is Magnolia Grandiflora. The blooms can be 8-10″ across, and the trees can grow quite large. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolia_grandiflora
