Planing down the Coaming
Knowing the boat would be handled a lot today, I stayed up late to plane down and sand and prep the Cockpit Coaming, along with any other sharp edges likely to get dinged and chipped off, or cut into a hand carrying the boat up the stairs. Yeehaw! Caesura made it out smooth and easy. Easy, at least, with the great help on hand. After nearly two years of wondering if I’d measured everything right, today was a big moment of truth. The way out.
I’ve got three strong, skinny friends coming over in the morning to try and get Caesura out the basement door for the first time. Yes, I’m a tad nervous. Ok, very.

Names are a very personal thing. Most people following along from the beginning know that “North” and “South” have just been convenient working titles, used to keep everything straight while all the pieces come together. I always figured the boats would name themselves when the time came, and they did, months ago, but I didn’t want to commit until it was certain. Last week I had to fill out the registration forms for the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival, and there was a blank there for “Boat Names” which had to be filled in, and I did, so I guess that time has come. Hatch Coaming, dry fit.
You know when you’re so tired you do things like: spend ten minutes looking for the glasses you can’t find because you’re already wearing them, or the misplaced pencil you can’t find because it’s stuck behind your ear? Not a good time to be running power tools. I was so exhausted by last Sunday I had to take a nap in the middle of the day, just so I could get something done in the evening.
